The Intergrity of Joint Admission and Matriculation Examinations (JAMB) has been put to test as the overall best Candidate for the 2023 The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Miss Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme have been riddled with lots of controversies.
On Sunday, 2nd July, 2023, two months after the 2023 JAMB Exams, the Examination Board announced that Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary Nnewi, in Anambra State, who was widely celebrated as the best student in UTME 2023, manipulated her score to defraud the public as disclosed in a statement by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s spokesperson.

“The most pathetic of them all is the case of Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, who claimed to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME and was awarded a N3m scholarship by Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma. She was even set to be honoured by the Anambra State Government when one of its top officials put a call through to JAMB to confirm her claim only for the Board to reveal that Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma had actually scored 249 and not 362 she claimed. She had manipulated her UTME result to deceive the public to fraudulently obtain a scholarship and other recognitions,” a statement by JAMB said.
Speaking to AnaedoTV, Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme has this to say about the Alledged fraud accusations from JAMB.
“I wrote my UTME on April 25th and checked my result on May 14th 2023. I first checked my result through SMS code (55019) provided by JAMB, they sent me my result which showed I got 362, I went ahead to visit JAMB portal to print it out.

“From my Nursery school, I’ve alwas been recognised as the best pupil, to the extent i represented my school in a state competition while i was in Primary two (2) and won.
“I work hard for my result and I’m not even satisfied with my score in English, I think I can do better than that. I have time table with which I Study. I scored 334 over 400 in my common entrance examination, I have not scored less than three hundred (300) in any of my exams.
“All my days, years in school, I have not engaged in any forgery or malpractice, why would I do it now? she querried in a tearful tone, “I am traumatised.” she said.
On Technical skills and software usage she said she has no training on the use of Computers.
Her words; “I have not had any computer lesson, I don’t have any knowledge of hacking not to talk of hacking to manipulate result. It is disturbing. She said”

Miss Mmesoma, however, revealed the Department of Secret Service (DSS) is investigating the alleged fraud after the Anambra State Education commission requested the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to ascertain the score before awarding scholarship and other benefits to her but was shocked to receive the news of JAMB accusing her of Fraud.
Her words; “The problem started after i have visited the Anambra State Commissioner for Education together with my Principal on her invitation. She snapped my result and send to the JAMB, which called her after ten minutes and said my result is fraudulent and was forged.”
“The DSS invited us to their office in Awka, the State capital and asked me some questions, which i answered to my best knowledge. They requested for my result, which i submitted to them. They asked me to not say anything and not travel until they are done with the investigation.
“I was surprised to read in the news that i forged my result. I am sad and very depressed.”

About one month ago, Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing awarded 3 Million naira scholarship to Miss Joy as a way of supporting the indigent family and has refuted and running an independent Investigation on the report of forgery allegation from JAMB.
Ejikeme Joy is currently writing her NECO Examinations and also getting ready for the upcoming SATs on 26th of August.
