Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, on Sunday night broke own record following his side’s Premier League away 1-0 defeat against Southampton.
Southampton defeated Man City at St. Mary’s Stadium, thanks to Che Adams’ only goal of the match in the first half.
The defeat against Southampton means Man City have now lost three consecutive away Premier League games for the first time since 2015, the first time a Guardiola team has ever done so, Daily Star reports.
Just last Thursday, Guardiola’s men humbled Premier League champions, Liverpool, at Etihad Stadium with a 4-0 victory.
Man City will now face Newcastle United in their next Premier League clash on Wednesday. The Citizens are still in the second position on the log with 66 points from 32 games.
Manchester City crashed to a third successive away Premier League defeat as Che Adams’ first Southampton goal secured a hard-fought 1-0 win at St Mary’s.
It is the first time Pep Guardiola has lost three consecutive away league games in his managerial career following defeats at Manchester United and Chelsea with the goal coming on 16 minutes when Stuart Armstrong dispossessed Oleksandr Zinchenko and Adams lobbed the stranded Ederson from 35 yards.
City missed a host of chances to level with Fernandinho striking the post as Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and his two centre-backs, Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek, produced inspired performances to preserve their slender lead.
The result moves Southampton up to 13th in the table while City remain on 66 points in second place, 23 points off champions Liverpool after a ninth league defeat of the season.
Guardiola stated that Southampton defeated his team 1-0 in the Premier League on Sunday night because the Citizens made a mistake and could not convert their chances in front of goal.
Speaking after the game, Guardiola was quoted by Express UK as saying: “We played really well again, but we made a mistake and after, we had chances to score we could not convert.
” We cannot lose a lot of games, and we have lost a lot of games.
“In the (title-winning seasons) Premier League, we were a machine in terms of playing and results and this season results have not been good.
“We were a machine in the second season. Every game we had seen, how we have lost and played and really good, but it’s not enough.
“We put in a good performance here, but it was not enough, and in the league, we have lost games in this way. When this happens so many times, it’s not a coincidence, it’s happened many times.”
