The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Peter Mbah was elected governor of Enugu State on Thursday, according to the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Enugu State.
According to Anaedoonline.ng, Barr Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party, LP contested Mbah’s election.
The main claims in Edeoga’s appeal were to Mbah’s alleged forging of a NYSC certificate, election irregularities, and overvoting, among other things.
Justice Kudirat Morayo Akano, the three-person panel’s chairman, dismissed the petition in favour of Mbah, the respondent.
Enugu Governorship Election Tribunal Dismisses PRP’s NYSC Petition Against Peter Mbah
It rejected Edeoga’s request to disqualify Mbah for allegedly forging his NYSC certificate.
The tribunal determined that the NYSC certificate is not necessary to run for governor of the state under Section 177 of the 1999 Constitution.
It was decided that Mbah was already qualified to run for governor without the NYSC certificate, thus he did not submit it to INEC to support his eligibility.
The Tribunal similarly rejected claims of excessive voting and BVAS bypassing.
The panel further stated that the witnesses offered by the Labour Party had given false testimony since they were not properly accredited agents by INEC.

According to the ruling, Mbah was legitimately elected governor with a majority of the legitimate votes cast in the election.
Additionally, it had earlier in the day denied the petition submitted by Elder Christopher Agu, the PRP’s nominee for governor.
