Enforcement of Governor Willie Obiano’s directive on inter-state travels has commenced in Anambra State.
The policy was introduced to prevent further spreading of COVID-19 pandemic in the state. The programme is being carried out by Ministry of Transport.
Speaking during a stop at Ebenebe town in Awka North L.G.A, Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Christian Madubuko reemphasised that only intra state movement is allowed during the lockdown.
According to him, the policy is coming to keep tab on entrance of people into Anambnra from neighbouring states.
He also noted that the water ways are not left out of the directive, as task force personnel have been deployed to the water ways, even though according to him, there are hitches but they are tightening the loose ends and appreciated the Mr. Onwuje and his team for showing commitment towards the directive.
For this, he solicited strict obedience to the governor’s directive through community vigilance. He said that vigilante service operatives and youth groups as well as government appointees from every community will be drafted to work in synergy with the police to ensure total compliance.
Earlier, while welcoming the team, Transition Committee Chairman of Awka North L.G.A, Ferdinand Onwuje promised that the town will always comply with government directives, stressing that youth and women groups have been sensitised adequately.
Onwuje also appreciated the government for sending in security personnel to complement their efforts in ensuring compliance.
During the inspection, the team discovered some hidden parks where vehicles that flaunt the directive were impounded by the task force team.

Over 25 vehicles were seized for engaging in commercial transport across the boundary, though some commuters feigned ignorance to government directive.
