It is so sad that Nnewi has lost out in APGA and PDP, the two parties we all know have the capacity to produce the next governor of Anambra state. It was unfortunate but it was predicted. Some of us knew it would happened. Even at that, it is so sad to see a brother lose. But, they put up a good fight. I hereby commiserate with our aspirants that lost and pray that the good Lord would help them bear this painful loss and replenish the resources they invested in this governorship project.
What can one do if his offer of service to his people is rejected by his own party? The truth is that we cannot force ourselves on others. Nnewi people share the same fate as Ndigbo in Nigeria. They know we are very capable but we are distrusted or envied. I encourage all the Nnewi aspirants that lost out in their bids to become governor to now devote their talents and resources towards developing the four villages of Nnewi in any way they can.
Let them assume leadership of their communities’ or our town’s development associations and galvanise resources to build our community roads, establish scholarship funds, set up more small and medium enterprises, create jobs for the youths and women. It is possible to achieve these without being governor. Chief Osumuo and Chief LNE Nsoedo did it with Nnewi Youth League. Cletus Ibeto, Ekene, Izundu etc did many quality roads without intentions to be Anambra governor.

Our aspirants should contest for elective positions in the Nnewi Improvement Union, Nnewi youth associations or form any one. They can set up NGOs to help the aged, widows and the mentally challenged. Not those ones done for political showmanship. They should arrange funding to set up world class universities and more hospitals in Nnewi. They should channel their talents to developing Nnewi. Jews in America need not hold political offices to control things in the US because they own the media and influential scientific and business portfolios that shape government’s policies.
We do so and can do more in Anambra. I, Anayo Nwosu, the Ikenga Ezenwegbu, have since forgotten joining politics because of the way it is played in our clime. How can I bribe people to serve them? I now work with some like minds in Nnewi towards developing my community and my town using my enablements, small contacts and skills. All of us can do that.
Let no one kill himself trying to serve the state at all cost otherwise, bystanders could interpret that to mean an act of desperation to take control of the treasury of the state for personal enrichment or for self aggrandisement. Without sounding fatalistic, major political influencers in Nnewi and in Anambra have taken positions and no candidate from Nnewi is in consideration.

They are now torn between Chukwuma Soludo and Val Ozigbo who clearly could win this year’s governorship election subject to the resolution of their parties’ internal issues. Nnewi as a town didn’t plan well and we didn’t start on time for this election. It should have been part of the deal to support Willie’s second term. We also scored many own goals, committed strategic errors and recruited poorly. We elevated individual ambitions to community projects without proper weighing of our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. We publicly gloated over our Nnewiness and thought that other communities around us are not smart and could be managed or hoodwinked.
We thought it smart to eat the flesh of the senate and house of rep and force them to accept the left over as we move on to collect governorship so the new legislator will serve less than 2 years. What a selfish disposition! We didn’t give and we want to take. And we failed. Unfortunately, it is now either Soludo or Val Ozigbo. At last Ibeto, Innoson, Patrick Ubajaka et al are right. Soludo is likely the next governor of Anambra state. It is a bitter pill ndi Nnewi will now begin to learn how to swallow.
