The health condition of young Nkeiru Simon has continued to deteriorate since her landlord, one Mr. Obinna Mbonu allegedly slapped her twice during a misunderstanding on May 2nd 2020.
Nkeiru who is from Ezea in Ebonyi state reportedly has an underlying ailment which has made her move to 5 different hospitals in the last 6 weeks.

According to the information gathered by anaedoonline.com from a young relative named Oluchukwu, the young girl who has been taking care of her. The 14-year-old stated that trouble started when the landlord’s wife went to call her husband that they were washing dishes in front of their room instead of in the kitchen that was recommended for the apartment.

She said the landlord came and kicked away their washing items which was when Nkeiru came and confronted the landlord which gradually led the landlord to slap her twice. Few days after the incident, Nkeiru was reportedly admitted to two different hospitals(unnamed).
According to Oluchukwu, her health became so bad after the struggle and slap from the landlord. After the discharge from the hospitals, she was still sick and eventually reported the incident to the police where they mandated the landlord to take her to the hospital and pay the bills. The landlord took her to Zenith hospital Nnewi, this was where the Doctor on duty confronted the landlord for slapping Nkeiru; the Doctor said Nkeiru had Sickle Cell and any sort of violence could be detrimental to her health. She was admitted and given blood and after 2days was discharged. Few days later, the condition persisted and she was rushed to Akwudo hospital, from there she was referred to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital(NAUTH) Nnewi, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Her condition has since deteriorated and she is unable to move about at all.

Anaedoonline.com reached out to the landlord, Mr Obinna Mbonu to find out what happened. Mr Obinna claimed that he did not slap Nkeiru; that Nkeiru falsely accused him of hitting her. He said he only broke her washing bowls and tried to stop her from cooking inside the room after several warnings. Mr. Mbonu said his misunderstanding with her is not the cause of her sickness, that she had been sick before then.

In another conversation with the estranged sister of Nkeiru, Amarachi. She said she was not aware that her sister had the Sickle Cell disease. She said Nkeiru called her last year May (2019) to come live with her in Nnewi. She said, they really did not grow up together as they all had to live with people because of the financial difficulties.
Amarachi further stated she was not at home on the day of the incident but was told the landlord slapped Nkeiru. She said she inquired from the landlord why he slapped her sister, she said he neither refuted nor confirmed hitting her, but said he only tried to stop her from cooking in the room.
Speaking to multiple sources around the house, they confirmed that the landlord had acted out violently towards the victim. Other sources stated that, they heard about it but were not present during the incident.
Evang. Caleb Egbuim who contacted anaedoonline.com said, someone called him on the phone about Nkeiru while they were at Akwudo hospital and that is how he became involved in the matter. He said he has supported them financially so far and hopes that other members of the community can help to save Nkeiru to stay alive.
“Her illness demands alot of financial commitment which she cannot afford now and she is constantly in need of blood” he said.
As of the time anaedoonline.com visited Nkeiru at the Hospital we could not speak to her as her statement of mind was unstable. The nurses on duty at the NAUTH women’s ward confirmed that Nkeiru and other patients in the ward have been discharge due to the strike by the resident doctors.
Nkeiru’s situation has really deteriorated, she was seen wearing adult pampers due to her inability to use the restroom. Most times they do not have funds
to take care of her basic essentials. She has received over 6 pints of blood, some of which the expenses was taken care of by Evang. Egbuim, the landlord and others.
Prior to the sickness, Nkeiru was a hardworking hairstylist in Nkwo-Nnewi, Anambra State.
