BREAKING: Nigeria Records 196 New Cases Of Coronavirus

As the fight to tackle the pandemic currently hunting the world continues, Nigeria, on Wednesday night recorded 196 new cases of Coronavirus.

According to a tweet from the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, (NCDC), Lagos State recorded 87 cases, Kano State had 24 cases, Gombe State had 18 cases and Kaduna state recorded 17 cases.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded 16 cases, with Katsina State having ten cases, Sokoto State had eight cases, Edo State had seven cases, Borno State had six cases, and Yobe, Ebonyi and Adamawa State had one case each

As it stands, 1728 persons have tested positive to Coronavirus in Nigeria, with 307 patients discharged, and 51 deaths recorded.

Anaedoonline.com reported that Director-General Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu has come of to say that for more test to be conducted across the nation, more test kits must be provided.

The NCDC Boss on Sunday tweeted: “We’re desperately looking for more RNA extraction kits as we expand our COVID-19 testing.

“Product: Total viral RNA extraction kits (preferably spin column and with a lysis buffer). Manufacturers: Qiagen, Thermo Fischer, SeeGene, Inqaba, LifeRiver etc.”

The NCDC has done 10,413 tests as of April 24, with about 600 tested daily.

Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) President, Dr Francis Faduyile, said if Ghana could test over 50,000 and South Africa has tested over 100,000, Nigeria ought to scale up its testing.

He told The Nation: “We have said there is a need for us to have some rapid screening kits. NMA has suggested that our pathologists should validate some of these rapid testing kits.

“Once it is validated, it should be easier for us to do tests in a much more rapid period and we can test a large number of people in a very short period.”
