BREAKING: HERDSMEN KILL UNIZIK LECTURER IN ENUGU
Nsukka – Uneasy calm pervades communities in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu State as herdsmen on Wednesday allegedly shot dead the secretary of the local government council and lecturer in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka for undisclosed reasons along Olo town in Ezragu local government area of the state. The assailed secretary of Uzo-Uwani local government council identified simply as Nnamdi Ogueche was said to have gone for a peace talk between communities and the herdsmen that have been terrorizing parts of Uzo-Uwani local government area in the recent past when the herdsmen allegedly ambushed his vehicle and shot him dead in cold blood.
Our correspondent gathered that the council secretary in company of three others in a vehicle were returning from the peace meeting when the alleged herdsmen attacked their vehicle, causing stamped and uneasy tension while the occupants of the vehicle jumped out to different directions into the bush for safety and the assailants allegedly pursued the council scribe and shot him dead instantly along Ezeagu LGA community road that shares common boundary with Umulokpa community headquarters of Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu State.
Contacted for comment over the killing, the Chairman Uzo-Uwani local government area Mr. Fidelis Ani confirmed the killing of the council scribe along Olo community road while returning from a peace meeting, adding that the immediate cause of the killing has not been ascertained, but entry has been lodged at Ezeagu police division at Aguobu Owa for investigations to unveil the circumstances surrounding the killing.
