Ten people have been detained by the Borno State Police Command on suspicion of killing a police constable in Maiduguri.
The suspects have been named as Usman Audu, a 20-year-old male; Hauwa Usman, a 20-year-old female; Aisha Musa, a 19-year-old female; Abba Bala; Sunday Garba; David Paul; Mohammed Abubakar; Jude Eze; Amaechi Abdulsalam Afochibe; and Nduibuse Nnaji, a 34-year-old male.
Babagana Mala was the policeman. He was assigned to the State Police Command’s Police Crack Unit and sent to the state’s Malari, Konduga Local Government Area.
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Yusufu, while parading the suspects to newsmen at the command headquarters on Tuesday, said the incident occurred along the Artillery area, Maiduguri, at about 4:27pm, Sunday, July 23.

“The Police Constable who came home (Maiduguri) on permission, was stabbed with a sharp object on his back by his assailants.
“We understand there was an altercation between the hoodlums and the constable before he was stabbed,” Yusufu said.
“On receipt of a distress call from the area, the police patrol team responded and rescued the victim to Maiduguri specialist hospital for treatment where he was later certified dead.
“Police undercover operatives obtained a video clip of the incident from a Good Samaritan which led to the arrest of the suspects,” he added.
The Borno police boss said proper investigation would be conducted before the suspects are charged to court.
