Popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has urged human rights lawyer Femi Falana and his son, rapper and activist Folarin (Falz), to direct their accusations toward media critic Martin Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, for circulating defamatory content about him.
The controversy stems from audio recordings shared by VeryDarkMan, where Bobrisky allegedly claimed that he had sought Falz’s help in persuading his father to secure a presidential pardon during his legal troubles, which reportedly cost N10 million. Additionally, Bobrisky was said to have requested N3 million from Falz to obtain special treatment while at Kirikiri Correctional Centre. In another recording, the crossdresser claimed to have paid N5 million to a Senior Advocate of Nigeria to arrange a Federal Government pardon over charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Femi Falana and Falz, through their legal representatives, Olorunfemi Akinyemi and Taiwo E. Olawanle, responded with a letter dated October 14, 2024, accusing Bobrisky of making false and defamatory statements. The letter demanded a public apology and retraction.
However, Bobrisky has firmly denied any wrongdoing, stating that neither Falz nor his father received any money from him. He emphasized that he had already made his position clear and reiterated his claim on Instagram: “I, Okuneye Idris aka Bobrisky, didn’t give Falz or his dad any money for pardon. No penny was given to them.” He further insisted that the person responsible for spreading the audio recordings should be held accountable.
In another post addressing the legal letters from the Falanas’ law firm, Bobrisky reaffirmed that he did not publish any defamatory content and denied having any knowledge of what VeryDarkMan had shared online. He added that his right to privacy should be respected, and any defamation claims should be directed at the source of the content, not him.
