The Lagos Chapter of the Awgbu Progress Union (APU) led by Aloysius Okoyenta has led the foundation for the construction of a multipurpose Maternal and Child Ward alongside a diagnostic laboratory at the Awgbu Primary Healthcare centre(Maternity Awgbu) at Akwuabor, Awgbu in Orumba North local government of Anambra state.

Speaking during the foundation laying ceremony, Aloysius Okoyenta stated that the goal of the Lagos Branch of the APU is to make the Primary Healthcare centre at Akwuabor a General hospital and also to reduce maternal and infant mortality at Awgbu.

In his remark, Okey Ezibe who is one of the facilitators of the project and a patron of the Lagos APU encouraged Ndi Awgbu to continue to invest at home and support developmental projects whenever it is attracted to the town so that Awgbu will leapfrog its neighbours in development and become a leading town in Anambra state whenever progress is discussed.

The Director, Primary Healthcare at Orumba North Local Government Area, Dr. Chike Ohamaobi while cutting the ribbon to begin the construction of the project, eulogized the originators and concept of the project.

The laboratory when completed will be able to undertake Utrascan, X-ray, lab tests and various other diagnostic tests. The Project is expected to be completed within 12 months

Others present at the event include members of the Igwe cabinet, Obed Obi, Chris Onwuka and Patrick Ezeanaka, the trio being past President General of the Awgbu Progressive Union, Jonas Ifinta, past President of the Lagos APU and host of others.
