Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot afford to lose the presidential election in 2023.
If the opposition loses the next election to the governing All Progressives Congress, Abubakar claims, the opposition would dissolve or fall into political extinction (APC).
At a meeting of the PDP Board of Trustees in Abuja on Tuesday, Atiku voiced concern that if the PDP loses the 2023 election, it will be in opposition for the next eight years.

Abubakar added that the approaching election is critical for the party, emphasizing that if another party wins the election, he and the other members of the BoT will be politically retired.
He said, “I am worried and you should be worried too that if we do not win, it means we will be in opposition again for the next eight years.
“By the next eight years, I don’t know how many of us will be left in politics and it may even ultimately lead to the death of the party because people gravitate, particularly in developing countries, towards governments.
“So this is a very crucial and historical moment in history, for our survival.”
