On Monday, 7th June 2021 President Muhammadu Buhari met with the new Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Major-General Farouk Yahaya at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, was also at the meeting at Aso Rock.
Anaedoonlinme.ng reports that Yahaya replaces Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru, who died in a military plane crash in Kaduna last Friday.

Prior to his appointment Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the incumbent Theatre Commander of the Counterterrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI.
Yahaya was born in Sifawa, Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto state. He is married and blessed with children. He belongs to the Regular Course 37.
Buhari had last week Tuesday asked the Nigerian Senate to confirm Major General Farouk Yahaya as the COAS.

The president, in a letter to the President of the Senate, urged the federal lawmakers to give his request, expeditiously.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan read Buhari’s letter of request at plenary on Tuesday morning.
