The national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ozonkpu Dr. Victor Ike Oye (Ozochikwadolu Amawbia), has congratulated the pioneer bishop of the newly created Ekwuluobia Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Peter Eberechukwu Okpalaeke.
In congratulatory message, Ozonkpu Oye described the creation of the new Diocese as long overdue, even as he thanked the Supreme Pontiff, His Holiness Pope Francis for appointing the Amesi Aguata born Bishop Okpalaeke as the first Local Ordinary.
According to the APGA boss, ‘I am happy for this appointment and the creation of the new Diocese. I rejoice with Bishop Peter Eberechukwu Okpaleke, emeritus bishop of Ahiara Diocese and also with the Ekwulobia diocesan faithful.
‘Ekwuluobia as a Suffragan of the Metropolitan See of Onitsha Archdiocese will help in no small measures in bringing the word of God closer to the people.

Pope Francis on Thursday inaugurated the Diocese of Ekwulobia in Anambra State and appointed Most Rev Peter Okpaleke as its bishop.
The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, announced the development at St Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka, Anambra State on Thursday.
Okpalaeke was some years back appointed the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese in Imo State but was rejected by the people of the area because he was not a native of the place.
But on Thursday Pope Francis erected him as the Bishop of the newly created Ekwulobia Diocese in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

He said the new Diocese was formed from a part of the territory of the Diocese of Awka made up of Akpu, Ekwuluobia and Achina Regions.
