Following the four-day strike action embarked upon by the workers of the National Assembly, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown a jibe of attack at the principal officers and leadership of the legislative arm.
Lanre Issa-Onilu, the
national spokesperson of the party, in a statement
released on Tuesday, December 18, raised an eyebrow on the inability of both Senator Bukola Saraki and
Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, to intervene on the strike.
Anaedoonline gathered that on Monday, December 17, workers at the National Assembly, led by Clerk Sanni
Omolori, stormed the complex in protest to demand
payment of their due allowances, deserved promotion,
among other issues.
They prevented lawmakers from entering, a
development that angered the legislators, who called on security operatives to prevent possible hindrance to
their duties.
Reacting to the protest, Onilu said: “The APC calls on
the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara,
to do the needful by attending to the demands of the
parliamentary workers.”

Onilu blamed the development on the defection of the principal officers, adding that such
unfortunate incidents of non-payment of salaries were recorded during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 16-year reign.
He said: “The PDP’s 16-year rule was characterised by
such incidences of unpaid salaries, ghost workers and a
shocking disdain for workers’ welfare.
“While the minority PDP usurpers, who parade themselves
as the National Assembly leadership have promptly paid
themselves their allowances, National Assembly workers, under the umbrella of Parliamentary Staff Association of
Nigeria (PASAN), are owed their duly earned 28 % increase in their salaries since 2010.”
The APC spokesperson called on Saraki and Dogara to address the issue in order to prevent circumstance
that will hinder legislative duties.
