The Labour Party (LP) has refuted accusations that the Appeal Court fired Julius Abure and the rest of the party’s leadership.
Instead, the LP said that the dismissal of Mr. Basil Maduka’s petition by the Court of petition in Owerri was another devastating blow for the Lamidi Apapa-led group, who it claimed is running for Labour Party governor of Imo State.
As a result, the LP urged its members, supporters, and the general public to separate themselves from the “falling and compromised members of the party,” who it claimed had now been ejected from the organisation.
Apapa Vs Abure: Court Passes Judgement On Labour Party Leadership Tussle
In a statement released by the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party alleged that Apapa’s team had misled the people by distorting the appellate court’s decision.
News outlets claimed that there was confusion following the alleged removal of Julius Abure as chairman of the Labour Party on Thursday by the Court of Appeal in Owerri.
Additionally, it was claimed that Lamidi Apapa was accepted as the national chairman of the party by the court in the same ruling.
According to the statement, the court determined that the appeal was unnecessary because the trial court’s decision was in its favour and that the trial judge’s simple comments regarding the case were not a ruling and should therefore be discounted.
Suspended LP Chairman, Abure Resumes At Party’s Secretariat Amid Tight Security
Ifoh clarified that the Labour Party had requested the Court of Appeal to overturn the remarks made by the Federal High Court in Owerri, and he also informed the court that Senator Athan Achonu had won the party’s primary elections.
He further added that “It is, therefore, important to state that neither the Federal High Court Owerri nor the Court of Appeal Owerri, which sat in Abuja today, made any orders in the matter other than for lack of locus standi against the plaintiff (Basil Maduka).”
The party rather insisted that “the status quo remains with Senator Athan Achonu as the validly nominated candidate of Labour Party for 2023 Imo governorship election”.

Ifoh went on to say that the Court of Appeal ruling and the endorsement of Senator Achonu by the Labour Party National Chairman Julius Abure, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and other stakeholders and party members have resolved the gubernatorial ticket issue.
