Anambra State Government has engaged the services of an International reputable construction company, IDC Construction Limited, for the reclamation of 100 Foot Road Nnewi Erosion Site.
100-Foot Road Nnewi, which is one of the major entrance to Nkwo Nnewi Market have suffered serious ecological threat occasioned by heavy gully erosion which has threatened to cut-off Nkwo Nnewi Market.
However, speaking during his recent visit to the site during the weekend, Hon. Melie Onyejepu said that Anambra State Government have officially engaged the Services of IDC Construction Company to begin the massive reclamation of the gully area through importation of laterite and compaction with careful channelisation of stormwater in a number of drains.

Hon. Sir Ogbuefi Melie Onyejepu, said that the project which is being constructed at the cost of #3bn will be supervised by Anambra State Ministry of Works.
According to Hon. Melie Onyejepu, the bureaucracy and long process involved in getting World Bank intervention has promoted the State Government to immediately begin work in the erosion without delay.
While appreciating the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, he said that the state government is determined in reclaiming the erosion site.
He said that engagement with IDC construction company will bring lasting solutions to the problems of erosion in the area.
Assuring Nnewi residents on speedy completion, Hon. Melie promised that the construction company will be properly funded.
He added that Governor Willie Obiano’s commitment towards the environmental protection of Nnewi has made the state government and Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) to over sink #7bn in intervening in the erosion site in Obiofia Nnewi where massive construction work is ongoing,

On his own part, the General Manager of IDC Construction Ltd, Freddy de Kleyn, said that the speedy construction of the erosion project was a function of funding.
He said that the topography of the site was so precarious that if not properly managed, rains from the coming rainy season may wash off all that had been achieved.
He added that they are already reclaiming the gully area through importation of laterite and compaction with careful channelisation of storm water.

Speaking also, the Publicity Secretary of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, Sir Augustine Ikeh (Ikedoji), thanked the state government for the intervention, he promised that Nnewi will give the contractor maximum cooperation to ensure that there is no interference from the community.
