Operators of airlines are thinking about raising the cost of flights to N250,000.
Obiora Okonkwo, Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines and a spokesperson for Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), estimated that a one-hour journey from Lagos to Abuja may cost N250,000.
On Wednesday’s Arise Television Morning Show, Okonkwo dropped the hint.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, needs to open a window for regional airlines to obtain foreign currency, the AON spokesman emphasised.

If you think tickets are pricey, you definitely don’t understand the sacrifices made by local operators, claims Okonkwo.
“If we have to charge the fares, the way the costs are increasing every day, we should be paying not less than N250,000 from Lagos to Abuja.”
Additionally, he gave Festus Keyamo, the aviation minister, instructions to work with other governmental entities to pinpoint and address the problems that are causing them.
On the issue of foreign exchange challenges, Okonkwo said: “You have naira and you can’t convert it to the dollar.
“So, the solution to this is for our minister to understand that we need a special window with the CBN to access foreign exchange.”
