The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has made shocking revelations about the recent security operations in the vicinity of the Lokpanta Cattle Market, situated on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. During a raid conducted by security operatives, a disturbing discovery was made: the remains of 20 decomposing bodies and skeletons.
Governor Otti revealed that an additional 50 bodies were found in the vicinity of the market. Disturbingly, the payment of ransom to suspected kidnappers was also linked to this location. These shocking revelations were disclosed during the governor’s monthly media chat in Umuahia, the state capital.
In response to these gruesome findings, Governor Otti affirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of every citizen and visitor in Abia State. He emphasized that his government’s stance to make the cattle market a daily market was not intended to target any particular ethnic group but was aimed at enhancing security in the market and its surrounding community.
Otti explained, “We have taken a stand to provide adequate security to Abia citizens and visitors because no government can succeed in the face of insecurity. This government will not get involved in supporting criminals or allow them to occupy any part of the state.”
The decision to occupy the Lokpanta cattle market in Umunneochi Local Government Area led to these distressing discoveries, including the presence of headless bodies and kidnapped victims. Additionally, it was revealed that ransom payments were often dropped close to the market.

The governor’s intent to transform the market into a daily trading hub was not meant to displace any particular group but to ensure that it serves as a secure and vibrant marketplace. He emphasized that people could now visit the market, conduct their business, and return home at the end of the day. The market’s future vision extends beyond cattle trading and will encompass other goods, resembling a typical marketplace. Those residing within the market will integrate with the broader community outside of it.
Governor Alex Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing government resources in infrastructure and quality services for residents. He emphasized that the government would not allocate resources to attend to attention-seekers or self-proclaimed political stakeholders. Furthermore, he encouraged individuals experiencing issues with salary payments to submit their complaints to the office of the Account General of the state, assuring them of prompt attention to their concerns.
