Portugal coach Fernando Santos has extended his contract in charge of the national team until the 2024 European Championship, the Portuguese football federation said on Tuesday.
Santos was appointed after the 2014 World Cup and led Portugal to success at Euro 2016, as well as the Nations League last year.
At the World Cup two years ago, Portugal were knocked out by Uruguay in the last 16. The 65-year-old will oversee both the postponed European Championship, to be held next year, and the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
“It was an easy decision to make given we are renewing the contract of a European champion,” federation president Fernando Gomes said. “He is a winner.”
In another news, Real Madrid has confirmed that the club has agreed on a transfer deal for defender, Javi Sanchez, to join Real Valladolid.
Zinedine Zidane’s side disclosed this in a statement on their official website on Tuesday.
“Real Madrid CF and Real Valladolid CF have agreed to transfer the player Javi Sánchez,” the statement read.
“The club wants to thank Javi Sánchez for all these years of dedication, professionalism and exemplary behaviour since, at the age of 8, he came to our academy in 2005, and wishes him good luck in his new stage.”
Sanchez was promoted to Real Madrid’s senior team in 2018.
Anaedoonline..com reported that Real Madrid have given Arsenal a June 15 deadline over the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the UK Mirror reports.
The LaLiga giants are among the clubs eyeing a move for Aubameyang, who has just one year left on his current contract in north London.
The Gabon striker is not expected to sign a new deal at the Emirates, which leaves the Gunners with a decision to make between cashing in now or allowing his contract to run down.
Real Madrid will, however, not wait beyond the middle of next month to know whether or not the 30-year-old will join them.
Los Blancos also want to explore a potential swap deal including Dani Ceballos, who is currently on a one-year loan at the Emirates.
