• The Federal Government has said schools who are running an international curriculum, will be allowed to write their third term exams online.

The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, while speaking on Monday during the daily briefing of the Presidential TaskForce on COVID-19, said, this had become necessary, as there were private schools licenced to run foreign curriculum, especially for children of expatriates and diplomats.

 

• Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi, has declared that Governor Godwin Obaseki and all his loyalists were set to join the party. He said Obaseki’s deputy, Philip Shuaib, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter would also defect.

 

• At least 61 bodies have been recovered from the Mediterranean after a migrant boat capsized. It was learnt that the boat which set sail around 10 days ago capsized while heading for Italy’s coast and sank off the Tunisian city of Sfax.

* The Federal Government on Monday suspended an airline for conveying Naira Marley to Abuja for a concert. The minister for aviation, Hadi Sirika, who made this known during the daily COVID19 briefing, said that the flight was approved for a different purpose.

 

• Nigeria on Monday recorded 573 new cases of coronavirus. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control in a tweet via its official Twitter account, said Lagos recorded 216 cases, while Rivers followed with 103.

• Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, on Monday, declared that he has failed in protecting the people from bandits, who kill, rape, injure the people, burn houses and rustle cattle. Masari said he cannot look at the people “in the face because we have failed to protect them, contrary to our pledge to ensure the security of lives and property”.

 

• Adebayo Osinowo, Senator representing Lagos East in the National Assembly is dead. Osinowo died after a brief illness at First Cardiologist Hospital, Lagos State on Monday.

 

• The Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force has relaxed the curfew imposed on the State following the ravaging coronavirus pandemic. Governor Seyi Makinde, after a meeting with COVID-19 Task Force team, announced resumption of classes for Primary Six, JSS3 and SS3 students from Monday, June 29.

 

• One of the Nigerians with staggering achievements, Emeritus Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe, is dead. He died at the age of 86 in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Monday. Akinkugbe was Nigeria’s first Professor of Medicine.

 

• Prominent legal practitioner, Granville Isetima Abibo, is dead. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) passed away on Monday.
