The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, revealed on Friday that the federal government has received evacuation requests from Nigerians in 75 countries.
Dabiri-Erewa revealed in a tweet that the evacuation process would, however, be done in batches.
“Our missions in those countries are to arrange and advise the PTF (Presidential Task Force on COVID-19) appropriately,” she said.
The NIDCOM Chairman also revealed that the first batch of Nigerians evacuated from the United Kingdom had arrived in Lagos on Friday afternoon.

She said the evacuees would be airlifted to Abuja where they would be placed on 14-day compulsory isolation.
“First flight arriving Lagos today at about 1.30 pm. Then heads to Abuja. Returnees will be quarantined in Abuja,” she said.
The Nigeria High Commission in the UK had earlier announced the conclusion of arrangements to evacuate the first batch of 301 citizens via London Heathrow to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The high commission had said, “It is pertinent to note that priority will be given to the elderly, persons with underlying health conditions, pregnant women, non-resident visitors to the UK and students. The exercise will be conducted strictly based on the existing list of evacuation requests received by the High Commission.
“The prospective evacuees will be required to pay the sum of £425.00 (Four Hundred and Twenty-Five British Pounds) each for the cost of the flight.”
