NSF: LAURITTA ONYE TO COMPETE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE RIO
Shot put F40 champion, Lauritta Onye, will be competing for the first time in two years after smashing her record at the 2016 Rio Paralympics Games. Anaedoonline.com reports.
Onye is set to represent Delta State at the 19th edition of the National Sports Festival in Abuja.
Speaking in an interview, she said that no athlete in the country currently poses any threat to her winning a gold medal in the women’s Shot Put F40 event.
Onye said, “This National Sports Festival is my first competition since Rio De Janeiro 2016. I have been missing several World Championships since 2016 but I am still good to go at the Sports Festival.
“How can they pose threat to me? They know I have the big heart to defend my championship at the National Sports Festival 2018”.
Onye revealed that she participated in Para Powerlifting at the EKO, 2012, winning bronze in the 40kg class.
“At the 2012 National Sports Festival in Lagos, I competed in the Para Powerlifting and was able to win a bronze medal for Team Delta in the 40kg class where I carried 82kg. This time around, the story is going to be different because I will feature in my original sport, hereby winning a gold medal”.
