The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Anambra Chapter has commended the state government for successful hosting the 12th biennial Nigeria Police Games tagged “Anambra 2020”.
The sporting event held between February 29 to March 7, 2020 with 12 police zones and force headquarters competing for various laurels, had the Force headquarters clinching first position with 274 medals, while Zone 2 coming 2nd with 230 medals just as Zone 11 got third position with 156 medals.
SWAN, in a letter signed by its state chairman, Mr Tony Oji, and secretary, Patrick Anaso, expressed satisfaction with the facilities employed during the games and what it termed seamless movement of athletes and officials to venues across the state.
“It is worthy to note that all the facilities including the newly constructed swimming pool, volleyball, basketball and handball courts were all available for use on the scheduled dates for the various events. SWAN wishes to thank our Grand Patron, Gov. Willie Obiano for releasing the funds required to stage “Anambra 2020” which has been adjudged as one of the best in the history of the games and Tony Oli Chairman of Anambra Sports

Development Commission for optimal combination of man, money and material to achieve the feat.
“SWAN charges the Anambra Sports Development Commission to build on the gains of the games by the maintenance of these facilities and making them available for training of athletes in the state. SWAN however wishes to seize this opportunity to urge the Obiano led administration to build a befitting Olympic Sports Stadium for Anambra people as a lasting legacy that would spark off revolution of sporting excellence in the state,” it added.
It further commended the private sector led by Rommy Ezeonwuka, Managing Director of Rojenny Stadium and Games Village, Oba; the Police IG Adamu Abubarkar, the state police commissioner, John Abang, and others for their various contributions to the outcome of the game.
