History was made yesterday, Tuesday, September 24th, 2019, in the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, like the Metropolitan and Primate of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, consecrated Six New Bishops for the Anglican Communion.
St. Peter’s Cathedral Church Asaba, venue of the consecration was filled with usual human presence as parishioners from the length and breadth of Nigeria gathered.
The Church which was already filled to capacity, had a sea of heads outside the church auditorium as many were trumpeting and drumming as they wait on.
The service started with about 20 minutes procession of the choir, the clergy, legal luminaries and the Bishops Elect.
The service which started with the celebration of the Holy Communion later moved into the consecration service properly.

There was a deafening ovation when the new bishops who were on their black robes later emerged in their white and red regalia, with a ring on their finger and cross on their chest.As they walked majestically from the western door, many in the congregation strained their necks to catch a glimpse of the bishops in their new regalia which conferred the rights and privileges of the new office.
The new Bishops were administered with oath of office and prayers. With the help of other Archbishops and Bishops, they were inducted with crosier given.
The new Bishops, Rt. Rev’d Ndubuisi Chukwuka Obi (Nnewi Diocese), Rt. Rev’d Oluseyi Pirisola (Diocese On The Coast), Rt. Rev’d Foluso Babatunji (Osun Diocese), The Rt. Rev’d Joshua Foluso Taiwo (Oke-Osun Diocese), The Rt. Rev’d Benjamin C. Okeke (Orlu Diocese) and Rt. Rev’d Geoffery O. Ibeabuchi (Umuahia Diocese) were immediately given the role of the distribution of the Holy Communion elements.
During the service, the Anglican Bishop of Awka Diocese, His Grace the Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim was officially presented as the Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger.
Delivering the homily, the Anglican Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province & Bishop of Orlu, The Most Rev. Dr. Bennett Christopher Ikechukwu Okoro, urged the consecrated Bishops to be servants and not lords. According to him, for the new Bishops to succeed, they need to look and follow diligently the exemplary life Jesus lived while shepherding his disciples.

Speaking further, Archbishop Okoro informed the Bishops that the new role which they have taken is not a privilege but a responsibility, which they will be held accountable in the last day. He advised them to make the word of God their companion while always be on alert with prayers.
While calling for prayers, he advised the parishioners from the different Dioceses to support their Bishops, in other to move the church forward.
Outside the Church auditorium, it was all drumming and trumpeting as Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Chukwuka Obi, the Anglican Bishop of Nnewi Diocese was received in jubilation by Nnewi indigenes who traveled from far and wide joined in the celebrating the New Bishop.
