PRESS RELEASE:
URUAGU NNEWI RESPONDS TO MALICIOUS RUMORS ABOUT OBI URUAGU NNEWI
The Palace of Uruagu has become aware that certain individuals, for reasons known only to them, are spreading false and malicious information about our esteemed monarch, His Highness Obi Afamefuna Charles Obi (Ogidi III), accusing him of involvement in kidnapping activities. These baseless accusations are not only entirely false but also represent a direct assault on the sanctity of the revered stool of Uruagu Nnewi.
We wish to categorically state that Obi Uruagu is NOT associated with any kidnapping activities and has never engaged in such criminal acts. The individuals propagating these falsehoods are promoting a dangerous narrative aimed at tarnishing the reputation of our Obi and undermining the peace and unity of Uruagu.
Recently, Obi Afamefuna Charles Obi concluded the burial rites of his beloved mother and chose to embark on a well-deserved vacation to rejuvenate. Every culture recognizes the need for both work and rest. Is our Obi not entitled to step back and seek respite, just like anyone else? Can a man’s absence suddenly render him guilty of crimes he did not commit?
As the elders say, “A man does not abandon his barn to chase rats when the harvest is near.” The Obi of Uruagu has consistently been a pillar of peace, development, and leadership in our community. His absence is not sinister or suspicious; it is a necessary retreat after a period of great emotional strain.
The Palace issues a strong warning to those disseminating these unfounded rumors: Cease immediately or face the full consequences of the law. False accusations are like dry leaves in the harmattan; once ignited, they have the potential to consume an entire forest. The law will not be lenient with those who choose to stoke these dangerous fires of discord.
Furthermore, we would like to address the media voicenote in circulation traced to individuals from our community living abroad. Efforts are being made to take legal action as soon as they return home, and they will definitely face a defamation suit. What they are doing is not only a malicious attack on our Obi’s character but also constitutes cyberbullying, cyberstalking and cybercrime and we will not hesitate to take action in that direction to protect the reputation of our Obi and the integrity of our community.
We urge the good people of Uruagu Nnewi to remain calm and reject these lies. Let us focus on building our community, rather than allowing baseless tales to sow division and distrust. As a community, we know our Obi for who he truly is—a man of honor and integrity.
To those spreading these rumors, we remind you of an ancient saying: “The person who throws mud at the king should be ready to carry the shame when it doesn’t stick.” Ultimately, truth will prevail.
Signed,
Prince Nwabufo Obi
Palace Secretary,
Hon Innocent Okoli
President General Uruagu Nnewi
