The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has reported the tragic deaths of two young men who drowned in a pond in Birninkudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The deceased, identified as 20-year-old Abubakar Alhaji and 25-year-old Abubakar Abdullahi, tragically lost their lives while attempting to cross the pond on their way to a market in Waza village.
The unfortunate event took place on Monday at approximately 11:00 AM. According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Badaruddeen Tijjani, the NSCDC Divisional Officer in Birninkudu, CSC Muhammad Garba, received a distress call from concerned community members around 11:30 AM, prompting an immediate response.
NSCDC officers, along with the divisional disaster management team, were swiftly deployed to the scene to carry out a rescue mission. After an intense 48-minute search, the team, with the help of local residents, managed to recover the bodies of the two victims.
