In a surprising turn of events, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State expressed his continued respect for his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Governor Fubara made this statement during a meeting with Wike, marking the first time they met in the state since a political crisis ensued.
The two political leaders came together at the rededication service of the 2023/2024 Legal Year of the Rivers State Judiciary, which took place at Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church on Hospital Road in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
In a light-hearted manner, Governor Fubara began his speech by jokingly asking the congregation to refrain from recognizing guests to avoid committing an impeachable offense. He then addressed the feud with his predecessor, stating that Wike remains his “oga” (boss) and emphasizing that whatever happened in the past should be left behind. He assured that his administration would focus on delivering for the people of Rivers State.
Wike arrived during the church service and exchanged a handshake with Governor Fubara, signaling a reconciliatory gesture between the two leaders. The political crisis, which included an attempted impeachment of Governor Fubara and the torching of the House of Assembly, had escalated into violence, with security agents reportedly firing shots at the governor.

However, it appears that calm has returned to the state, and this meeting may signal a step toward reconciliation between the two prominent figures in Rivers State politics.
