In order to retain his position as governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri has vowed not to harm anyone.
On the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, Diri is running for reelection in the governor’s race on November 11.
He promised to work hard to bring peace to the neighbourhood while speaking in the nearby community of Ogbolomabiri.
Police entered Bassambiri earlier this month to seize troublemakers there. Others had to abandon their homes, while some people suffered injuries.

Governor Diri asserted during a public forum that it is improper to use life for political benefit. “Anyone who sacrifices the lives of people in order to gain political power does not deserve to lead the state,” he declared.
The welfare of the displaced causes Diri concern. He urged local authorities to bring the populace together. He advised people to live in harmony and claimed that unrest hinders growth.
He said: “I will not spill one life to retain my office because every life is important to me. Anyone who wants to be governor should not sacrifice any of you to become governor.
“Bassambiri issues are either political, chieftaincy or economic. Anybody who wants oil company benefits should not sacrifice others to get payment.
“You cannot kill yourselves whether you are from Bassambiri, Ogbolomabiri, Brass, or Odioma. You are all Nembe people. You are all Ijaw people. So, I call on the Nembe-Se Congress to do more in uniting the people of Nembe.

“As a government, we will continue to do what we are doing to unite the people and to develop the area. That is why your government started the very big Nembe-Brass road project, which is a federal government road.”
Diri ordered the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to start supplying the displaced individuals with extra relief supplies right once.
He continued by saying that his administration’s strategy for ensuring public welfare focuses on empowering individuals and fostering skill development rather than arming young people with weapons so they can commit murder.
He cautioned the police squad against using any type of intimidation or unfair use of force in the neighbourhood.
He also asked the group to avoid getting involved in local politics and to limit their efforts to preserving lives and upholding the law.
