Festus Keyamo, SAN, the former Minister of State for Labour and Employment and a nominee for a ministerial position, apologised before the Senate on Monday for what was viewed as his contempt for the ninth Assembly.
He added that he had expressed regret to the chairman of the Senate’s committee on labour, employment, and productivity, Senator Godiya Akwashiki, as well as to his equivalent in the House of Representatives during the ninth Senate.
Keyamo said, “ I apologise to the Senate. I am sorry, I am sorry and I am sorry.”
Senate In Rowdy Session Over Keyamo’s Ministerial Nomination
“Regarding that programme, the account was handled by the World Bank. So, we, the head of the agencies, never saw one kobo. We only generated the list and the money was paid directly to the people’s account.
“Every detail of that account was captured and kept in a file. All the records of the beneficiaries and their data are in the ministry.”
Keyamo, who was last-minutely nominated for a ministry position by President Bola Tinubu on Friday, appeared before the Senate on Monday.
Darlington Nwokocha (LP, Abia Central) had earlier made the motion asking for the screening of the nominee to be postponed.
Nwokocha reminded Keyamo of how, when serving as a minister under the previous administration, he had insulted members of both chambers of parliament.

Additionally, he brought up allegations of corruption against the candidate and how he disregarded a call to the National Assembly in 2020 regarding the employment plan for the 774,000 Nigerians hired for the special public works programme.
Senator Nwokocha then said, “I move that we suspend forthwith screening of the nominee and wait until when this is cleared.”
The Senate then experienced a tumultuous session, which Senate President GodsWill Akpabio managed to quiet.
The Senate then convened behind closed doors, and the Red Chamber was once again in order.
