The Ugandan Judiciary has canceled the appointment of a Magistrate who allegedly disguised himself as a woman in order to write an examination for his lover.
Ammaari Musa Semwogerere, the perpetrator, was reportedly apprehended on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, when he was caught red-handed taking a law exam on behalf of his putative lover, a Bar Court student simply named as Irene Mutonyi.
The recently appointed Magistrate was apprehended at the Law Development Centre (LDC) Lira Campus, according to news reports.

According to reports, Semwogerere was promoted to Magistrate Grade One on probation by the Judicial Service Commission two weeks ago.
Campus authorities, on the other hand, criticized Semwogerere’s actions and reported the incident to the police, who apprehended and charged with two counts of forgery and a count of impersonation.
According to news reports, the accused was brought before the Lira Chief Magistrate on Friday, July 28, and was subsequently remanded to prison until August 3, 2023, for further hearing of the case.
In a statement acquired by journalists, Uganda’s LDC director, Frank Nigel Othembi, stated that Semwogerere’s offense violated Section 351 of the Penal Code Act and Impersonation violated Section 381 of the Penal Code Act.
Following the incident, the Judiciary issued a statement removing Semwogerere from his new position.
