The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor of Imo State, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, has been demanded to resign from his position as the party’s national secretary immediately, according to the PDP Young Democrats.
The movement within the PDP, which has roughly 134 members from the country’s 36 states, made the appeal on Friday in Abuja at a news conference.
Alaibi Nnana Joseph, one of the members, who read the news release, claimed Anyanwu’s departure will spare the party from more legal disputes.
Imo Governorship Election: PDP’s Anyanwu React After Clinching Party’s Ticket
Alaibi viewed Anyanwu’s continued employment as “repugnant to justice and fair play” and expressed the hope that the lawmaker would soon retire in order to focus on his duties in Imo.
He said, “One of the issues in the recent time is the continuous stay in office of Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu as the PDP National Secretary despite his ambition of contesting the Imo State Governorship election.
“We would like to reiterate that the PDP Young Democrats strongly support the call for the immediate resignation of Anyanwu as the PDP National Secretary.
“We strongly believe that this is the right thing to do as his continued stay in office is wrong and repugnant to justice and fair play.
“This will also save the party from needless and avoidable litigations in the future. We hope this will be done in the coming days”.
