The long-awaited 2023 general elections is finally here as the people of Nnewi join other Nigerians in their numbers to exercise their civic responsibilities in electing their new political leaders.
The election which started very late around 11:00AM against the proposed INEC time, 08:00AM, saw a huge turnout of voters across all polling units in the town.
The National Organizing Secretary of the Labour Party and the Secretary Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Clement Ojukwu (Gbazuoagu Nnewi) and other top Nnewi technocrats, political leaders, were all presented at their various polling units to exercise their franchise.

Speaking to AnaedoTV, a subsidiary of Anaedoonline, the political bulldozer, Gbazuoagu commended the voters for trooping out in their numbers to cast their votes.
He, however, expressed his displeasure over the timing the electoral materials with the INEC Ad-hoc Staff arrived at the polling units.
His words; “Our team in Abuja, we’ve written to them and they will talk with INEC and also our legal team have written a petition to INEC, because this is not acceptable”.
“According to Electoral act, voting is supposed to end at 03:00PM and people have not started voting by 12:00PM, so, our legal team are working on it”.
However, as AnaedoTV is conducting their on the ground reports of the general elections at Nnewichi Ward 1, they met other great sons of Nnewi who also came to various polling units to cast their votes.

AnaedoTV also in the course of conducting their on the ground reports of the general elections at Nnewichi Ward 1, visited the palace of the paramount traditional leader of Nnewichi, Obi George Onyekaba who expressed satisfaction and happiness at the level of turnout at the various polling units across the community.
The February 25th election which has the Presidential, the Senate and the House of Representatives election with some bonafied Nnewi sons who are in their humble self are contesting for elections through different parties in the ballot.
For a region, State, town known with vote apathy to show a pull an unprecedented large number of voters in the face of insecurity and other challenges, it is indeed something to commend.
There was no record of electoral violence or malpractice in Nnewi at the time of making this report.
