The governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, declared on Sunday that he agreed with the position taken by the pan-Yoruba group Afenifere on the support for Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate.
In Akure, Ondo State, at the greeting event for Tinubu by the leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, and other Yoruba elders, Makinde made this known in Yoruba through his deputy governor, Bayo Lawal.
Tinubu went to the organization to present his 80-page campaign manifesto’s action plans for the nation.
Lawal said, “Since he (Makinde) became governor, he doesn’t joke with Yoruba matters. There is no time that father would call him that he would fail to respond.
“Whenever there is an event, either organised by Afenifere or any other Yoruba group, Gov Makinde will always be supportive. Though we are not of the same political affiliation, but we are bound by ethnicity. Yoruba land, whatever it is you are doing, he (Makinde) is in support.”
According to an earlier report by Anaedoonline.ng, Tinubu will meet Pa Fasoranti and the Afenifere leadership to inform them of his goal and action plans to address the insecurity and “economic imbalance” that are impeding the country’s advancement.
However, Dr. Iyorcha Ayu, the PDP chairman, and Seyi Makinde, along with four other PDP governors, including Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Governors Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, have been at odds over the zoning of the party’s chairmanship seat. The party’s national events have been boycotted by all the displeased governors, notably those that included Atiku Abubakar, the party’s front-runner.
Pa Fasoranti, during this meeting, had dismissed Ayo Adebanjo’s support for Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party, by placing his hands on Tinubu’s head and praying for him.
