Candidates for Nigeria’s presidency in 2023 have been cautioned against underestimating the power and likelihood of Peter Obi, the candidate for the Labour Party (LP), to prevail in the election.
Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate, warned against getting your hopes up for Obi because some people believe the Labour Party has organization and that Obi won’t do well as president.
His submission comes amid allegations that the Labour Party and Obi lack the necessary structure to prevail in a presidential election in Nigeria from supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Atiku Abubakar.

However, Baba-Ahmed cautioned that if such political parties, candidates, and their followers underestimate the winning potential of Obi, they may be in for a big surprise at the polls.
In an interview with Channels TV, he described his interaction with an elderly politician in Nigeria who arrogantly dismissed Obi’s candidacy. It was during that interview that he made this statement.
The LP running mate also refuted claims that the north of the country does not have a significant presence or following for his party.
He said: “I went to greet one of my elders and this gentleman came to me with all air of arrogance and said to me: ‘you will get a lot of experience in this contest.’
“I just thanked him. And I said the first advantage you will give to your opponent is to underestimate him.
