As the deadline set by the country’s electoral commission approaches, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, and the party’s leadership must pick who will be his running mate.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the 17th of June as the deadline for political parties to submit a list of all presidential candidates and their running mates, according to Anaedoonline.ng.
INEC has told political parties that it had no plans to extend the deadline for submitting candidate and running mate names, giving the parties about six days to submit the list.
Remember that the PDP formed a committee to advise on who should be chosen as Atiku’s running mate? According to reports, the panel, which includes governors, members of the National Working Committee, former governors, and members of the Board of Trustees, will hold its final and decisive meeting on Tuesday.

The panel had deferred its last meeting, according to a credible source, to continue deliberations.
According to other reports, the party may make a definitive decision on the subject on Tuesday.
“Our presidential candidate will be part of the meeting on Tuesday and the major organs of the party are represented as well, so the decision there is as good as final. The announcement may be delayed to ratify the choice and of course we will watch what the other parties will come up with,” one of the sources stated.
Anaedoonline.ng reports that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa are the two individuals leading the race for the PDP VP ticket.
