Except there is a change of mind by the staff of the State University on tactics to be applied to ensure the state government hearkens to their plea for payment of outstanding salaries, the IMSU workers have concluded plans to embark on street protests.
Sources learned that all has not been well for the IMSU staff since Uzodinma came on board as they are being owed salary arrears running into three months.
Either there has been no payment or slashing of salaries for workers in IMSU forcing the staff to attract government attention. Weeks after no positive signals from the state, the various workers union of the institution are meeting to put finishing touches to the planned demonstration.
It was further gathered the unions agreed to stage a protest at Government House, Roundabout, Owerri, with a march from IMSU.
It will be recalled that anaedoonline.com reported that Gov. Uzodinma issued a Query to the Vice-Chancellor of IMSU for allegedly not utilizing the February subvention for the payment of salaries of lecturers and non-academic staff of the university.
The administration of Uzodinma has been witnessing regular protests with workers and pensioners taking to the streets over common issues.
Only recently, pensioners took to the streets on two occasions before some started receiving alerts.
Similarly, workers of the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, ISOPADEC, also embarked on street protests over three months’ unpaid salaries.
