The head Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has stated that the President-General won’t be eligible for a tenure extension.
Ohanaeze claimed that under its constitution, the President-General’s position may be rotated in alphabetical order.
When Imo State’s term as President-General expires on January 10, 2025, the faction’s secretary-general of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, pushed for the election of a new leader from Rivers State beginning on January 11.

Isiguzoro made the comment while highlighting how important it was for Rivers State to produce the upcoming Ohanaeze President-General.
In the capital of Ebonyi State, Abakiliki, he addressed a group of Rivers women known as Umuokpu and Umuada Nwanyi Igbo Federation.
The purpose of the trip was to gather information in order to determine whether Rivers State has a chance of producing the next Ohanaeze Ndigbo President-General in 2025.
Isiguzoro reassured the women that the President-General’s post may be rotated in alphabetical order in accordance with the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution.
“After Imo State’s tenure ends on January 10th, 2025, a new President-General from Rivers State will lead the Igbo community from January 11th, 2025.

“Nothing will change the emergence of a President-General from Rivers State on the set date and warned against any illegitimate extension of the current President-General’s tenure.
“A new President-General from Rivers State will assume office on January 11th, 2025, in accordance with the rotational policy outlined in the Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.”
The Igbo community was also advised by Isiguzoro to assist Rivers State in the upcoming Ohanaeze Ndigbo elections because the state has a number of qualified individuals running for President General.
